WONDERING WHAT LIES IN THEIR FUTURE

Where will the Road lead for them?

wild horses in holding by Monica L Ross

They stand and watch as they know not their fate. They stare at humans and wonder why they are here. They once roamed the open lands, wild and free. They had their bands and lived without a care, but now they stand wondering what the reason was they were chased by machines from the sky. Wondering what caused them to have to give up their freedom.

Their eyes were once filled with joy as they never feared being removed from their homes. They were born many years ago to proud herds. They chased each other and found loves of others in their valleys.

The lands were plentiful for them, and they ignored the other livestock such as cattle and sheep. They ignored wild animals as they did not bother their herds. They saw many wolves, bears and even bison, but never was an issue for them. Water and food seemed to be plenty and shared with animals of different kinds.

They would run daily, teaching the young to be mindful of the leaders. They were free to roam and breed, with never a care in the world. Suddenly, that changed as humans came with their machines chasing us from the sky.

There were two machines and humans on other horses that were chasing us, including the young ones. Some of the young ones were barely months old with legs that needing to strengthen, but now forced to run full gallop trying to avoid the machines.

What reason they chased us we never know, but now we stand in caged areas looking for our families. We stare at humans, wondering why we cannot roam freely again. There are no mares with us as well as none of the young ones, as we were pushed away from them. Only standing with others wondering what we did wrong.

What is our fate? What will become of us? Will we be free again to play, or will our fate be in captivity?

They long for homes. They long for freedom. They stare and wonder their fate; will someone come and rescue them so they can be free again?

There are many wild horses in HMAs controlled by the Bureau of Land Management. They round them up and place them in places like these; the horses hoping to be free. Currently, there are over 45,000 in holding areas around the country, and the BLM wants to round up more.

The horses ask and others ask–why can’t they just be free to live their lives like normal and not forced off their lands by those who have no desire to see them free. Wild horses need to be on the range running free not in holding areas waiting to be adopted.

Help set them free.

Just an update to this. They have been found a home, but somany more still await their fate. Will they be adopted or live in a caged area for their lives eternity. Please check out the BLM website and help if you can.
